The GTA 6 Mapping Project, Explained

Quick answer

The GTA 6 mapping project is a public community effort assembling a fan-made Leonida map from trailers and official screenshots. It is impressive — and it is necessarily an estimate, since no official map exists. ViceHints explains it, links it, hosts no leaked material, and maps from original artwork instead.

What the mapping project is

It is a public community effort: players are assembling a fan-made map of Leonida by cross-referencing trailer frames, official screenshots, and confirmed location names. Landmarks visible in official material are placed relative to each other, and the gaps between them are filled in with educated extrapolation.

The effort deserves credit for rigor — placements are argued from visible evidence, and press coverage has documented the method in detail. Two trailers’ worth of Florida-flavored coastline, cities, keys, and wetlands go a surprisingly long way.

Why it can only be an estimate

Every size figure that comes out of frame-matching is derived, not measured: camera lenses, cut framing, and stitched horizon shots all stretch or compress apparent distance. Treat any community-project square-mileage number as an ESTIMATE — ours included. The publisher has released no official map and no official dimensions.

When the game ships, real measurements replace estimates everywhere on this site within days. Until then each number we print carries its provenance.

Our line: explain, never host leaks

ViceHints hosts zero leaked material — no ripped map tiles, no datamined coordinates, no "spotted in a leak" markers. Our map is original stylized artwork with roughly fifty trailer-derived starter landmarks, upgraded to verified in-game locations after launch. That is slower than scraping; it is also the only version of this page that can never be the wrong citation.

Leak-adjacent searches deserve an explanation, not a payload. If you arrived here looking for leaked material: this is where you find out what is actually confirmed instead.

How to follow the real thing

Our interactive Leonida map is live now with its honest pre-launch marker set, and it is the first thing we update when verified locations start landing on November 19. The size-comparison pages keep the derived-vs-confirmed distinction visible, and the news feed links every official announcement at its source.

Common questions

Is the community mapping project accurate?

Parts of it will likely be close; all of it is an estimate. Frame-matching cannot measure distances, so treat every derived figure as approximate until in-game verification replaces it after launch.

Is the ViceHints map the official GTA 6 map?

No. There is no official public map yet. Ours is an original, stylized, unofficial interpretation with verified markers — and the differences are labeled rather than hidden.
